Ian Wright: 29-year-old Arsenal star will always be a fans’ favourite
The Arsenal legend doesn't believe the Gunners fans have ever fallen out of love with Mesut Ozil

Ian Wright insists Mesut Ozil has always been an Arsenal fans’ favourite.
The German midfielder scored a brilliant winner to help Arsenal ease to a 1-0 win over Newcastle United at The Emirates last weekend.
The 29-year-old midfielder has scored four goals and has made five assists in his last 10 appearances to hit top form ahead of the new year.
The World Cup winner got on the score sheet in Arsenal’s 3-3 thriller with Liverpool FC at The Emirates on Friday night.
Ozil’s future has been a source of relentless debate after the World Cup winner opted to hold off on signing a new deal with the Gunners.
The former Real Madrid midfielder has been linked with a move to Manchester United with less than seven months remaining on his current contract.
Ozil has been regularly criticised for his subdued performances in an Arsenal shirt, especially in their games against their biggest title rivals.
However, Arsenal legend Wright is adamant that Gunners supporters have never seen their affection for Ozil waiver.
“I don’t think the fans love towards Ozil has ever changed,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“They’ve always wanted him to play on the consistent level he is playing right now.
“The cynics will say the link to Man United and hasn’t signed a new contract isn’t coincidental he is playing the best for Arsenal that he has in a long time.”
Arsenal signed Ozil in a £42.5m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in August 2013.
The Gunners midfielder has won the FA Cup three times in their last four seasons.
