Garth Crooks has praised Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for his “sensational” performance in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Norwich City on Sunday.

The Gabon international scored twice in Arsenal’s 2-2 stalemate with the promoted side at Carrow Road to secure a point for the visitors.

The Arsenal skipper has been one of the north London side’s best performers in an otherwise dreadful Premier League campaign for the Gunners.

In spite of the speculation surrounding Unai Emery’s future at Arsenal, Aubameyang had managed to score eight times in 13 games before their trip to Norwich.

Freddie Ljungberg took charge of his first Arsenal game at Carrow Road after the Gunners brought to an end Emery’s spell in charge at The Emirates last week.

Former BBC Sport pundit Crooks praised Aubameyang for maintaining his clinical performances after the Arsenal number 14 scored twice in a 2-2 draw at Norwich.

“Arsenal are in a mess. I take no pleasure in stating that unfortunate fact as they are one of the country’s top clubs with a wonderful history,” Crooks told BBC Sport.

“Fortunately they have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who couldn’t save Unai Emery’s job but did save Arsenal’s blushes against Norwich at Carrow Road.”

“The Gabon international kept his cool under enormous pressure to finish with a retaken penalty and then pulled the Gunners from the brink of defeat with a sensational finish.

“However, Arsenal’s performance under interim manager Freddie Ljungberg was far from convincing. As for their defending? Well that was a joke.”

Aubameyang has scored 10 goals in 14 games in the Premier League this season, while the Gabon forward has also netted twice in three Europa League outings.

The 30-year-old moved to Arsenal in a £58m deal from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 before Arsene Wenger left the Gunners at the end of the 2017-18 season.

Arsenal will return to Premier League action with a home clash against Brighton on Thursday before a trip to West Ham.
