Unai Emery praises Arsenal star for his ‘amazing attitude’
Arsenal manager Unai Emery heaps praise on Calum Chambers for his performance on Tuesday night
Unai Emery has praised Calum Chambers for his “amazing” attitude after the Arsenal defender played his part in a 5-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
The England international was handed a starting spot against the Championship side after Chambers scored Arsenal’s equaliser in a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League last weekend.
Chambers impressed in a left-back role against Nottingham Forest as goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Rob Holding and Joe Willock sealed their progress to the fourth round of the League Cup.
The Arsenal star has the versatility to be used in a wide variety of positions across the north London side’s back four give he can play at centre-half, left-back and right-back.
Chambers has started four of Arsenal’s eight games in all competitions this season as he looks to earn a regular starting spot under Spanish head coach Emery.
The Arsenal manager has been impressed with Chambers’ willingness to play in any position to help the Gunners team.
Emery told his post-match news conference: “He helped. He helped us in the training, in the dressing room and when you need him to play right back, centre back, left back like [like Tuesday night] and we can use him in the midfield also.
“His performance is starting with his attitude and his attitude is amazing. After that is his best position, but tonight for example I was telling him, when he was playing left back, be calm here, help and support Bukayo, give the ball to Dani Ceballos and he was overlapping a lot of times with Bukayo!
“He did one very good pass for the goal with Nelson. He didn’t listen to me!”
Chambers moved to Arsenal in a £16m deal from Southampton in the 2014 summer transfer window after the versatile defender was billed as the next big prospect for England.
However, the 24-year-old has struggled to realise his talent at Arsenal so far, spending the 2018-19 season on loan at Fulham.
