Jamie Carragher reacts to Simon Mignolet’s ‘shocker’ in Liverpool v Arsenal
The Liverpool legend is critical of Simon Mignolet's performance in a thriller at Arsenal on Friday night

Jamie Carragher blasted Simon Mignolet for the goalkeeper’s latest mistake at The Emirates on Friday night as Liverpool played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Arsenal.
Liverpool FC were leading 1-0 at half-time thanks to Philippe Coutinho’s deft header in the first half following excellent build-up from summer signing Mohamed Salah.
The African forward doubled the visitors’ lead following his deflected finish past Petr Cech to score his 15th Premier League goal and appear to put the result beyond doubt.
However, Alexis Sanchez capitalised on Joe Gomez’s poor defending at the back post to halve the deficit before Arsenal were level minutes later through Granit Xhaka.
Th Switzerland international hit a long-range attempt from outside the area that swerved a little but remained pretty central.
Mignolet, though, was unable to make contact with the shot as Xhaka levelled and gave Arsenal the momentum required to complete their comeback thanks to Mesut Ozil’s stylish finish.
Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher was damning in his assessment of Mignolet’s attempt to keep out Xhaka’s long-range shot.
“The ball moved all over the place but the goalkeeper has to do better. He has to do more,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“I’ve questioned Simon Mignolet for a long time. He has to be stronger and more powerful. He has to better than that. It’s a shocker from the goalkeeper.”
Mignolet’s blushes were spared thanks to Roberto Firmino’s goal but the Reds goalkeeper could be facing an uncertain future ahead of the January transfer window next month.
