Michael Owen insisted that Arsenal’s victory over Brighton was no surprise whatsoever after the Gunners’ 2-0 win at The Emirates on Sunday.

It ended up being a relatively comfortable afternoon for Arsene Wenger’s men as the Gunners sealed the three points to move level on points with Chelsea and up to fifth place in the Premier League table.

Arsenal took the lead early on when Nacho Monreal finished after the ball fell to him in the box.

And Alex Iwobi made the points secure early in the second half when he fired home a strong finish after being found by Alexis Sanchez’ superb backheel.

It marked Arsenal’s second straight win in the Premier League after their 2-0 victory over West Brom last week.

And former Liverpool striker Owen believes that the Gunners deserve praise for their consistency against the smaller teams in the Premier League.

Speaking during BT Sport’s coverage of the game, Owen said: “They’re remarkably consistent.

“I remember a while ago people saying: ‘you never know what Arsenal are going to turn up’.

“Arsenal always beat the lesser teams – it’s the big teams they struggle against.

“Today went to form. It was always hard to see Brighton scoring a goal and Brighton did what they had to do.”

Arsenal will now return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Watford on Saturday 14 October at Vicarage Road.

The Gunners have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph back in 2003-04, when the north London side were still playing their home games at Highbury.
