Arsenal interested in signing 20-year-old defender before deadline – report
Arsenal are interested in a deal to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, according to reports

Arsenal are interested in a deal to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the north London side are eyeing a move to bring the 20-year-old to The Emirates this summer as an alternative to Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.
However, whether a deal can be struck before Thursday’s deadline remains to be seen, as according to the same story, the Gunners are being put off by Leipzig’s £50m valuation of the centre-half.
The same story says that Arsenal are trying to get a loan deal for Rugani, 24, done before the deadline, but Juventus would prefer a permanent switch.
It is reported in the same article that Rugani’s representatives are thought to be in the UK, and that Wolves are also interested in a move for the Juventus defender.
Arsenal have reportedly also taken a look at Upamecano but have been put off by Leipzig’s £50m valuation, which the Gunners would struggle to match following the £72m signing of Nicolas Pepe last week.
Whatever happens, according to the same story, Arsenal are “desperate” to bolster their defensive options ahead of Thursday afternoon’s transfer deadline.
Arsenal will kick off their new Premier League campaign with a trip to Newcastle United on Sunday.
