Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins for a number of years, according to reporter Duncan Castles.
The north London side are being heavily linked with a move to bring the Portugal winger to The Emirates this summer as Unai Emery looks to bring in some reinforcements this summer.
The speculation linking Martins with a transfer to The Emirates has heightened in recent days amid reports that the 23-year-old has cancelled his contract with Sporting Lisbon and is keen on a move away.
Now, Sunday Times journalist Castles has revealed that the north London club have been keeping a close eye on the attacker for a number of years.
Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, Castles said: “[Arsenal are] moving for a player they have scouted for a number of years in Portugal.
“He is a wide attacker who can beat a player with skill, he has pace as well.”
Arsenal are thought to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as Emery looks to try and build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season.
The north London side finished in sixth place and without a trophy last term in what ended up being a disappointing final season in charge for Arsene Wenger at The Emirates.
Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph back in the 2003-04 campaign.
