Granit Xhaka could be handed Arsenal captaincy – report
Granit Xhaka is a candidate to become the new Arsenal captain this summer, say reports

Granit Xhaka is a candidate to become the new Arsenal captain this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Star is reporting that Atletico Madrid have ended their interest in signing the Switzerland midfielder after the Spanish club sealed a deal to land Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente.
Despite the recent speculation about Xhaka’s future, it is claimed in the same story that the midfielder is happy at The Emirates and is willing to stay at the north London club.
And with Petr Cech having retired and Laurent Koscielny “likely” to leave Arsenal this summer, Xhaka is a potential candidate for the captaincy, according to the same article.
Xhaka was a regular fixture in the Arsenal team under Unai Emery last season and he scored four goals and made two assists in 29 Premier League games for the Gunners.
The 26-year-old also made three assists in the Europa League to help Emery’s men reach the final, where they lost 4-1 to London rivals Chelsea FC.
Arsenal will be looking to try and break back into the top four next season after they finished in fifth place and without a trophy this term.
