Henrikh Mkhitaryan sends message to Arsenal fans after AC Milan win
Henrikh Mkhitaryan reflects on Arsenal's 2-0 victory over AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has admitted his delight at scoring his first goal for Arsenal in the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday night.
The north London side went some way towards answering their critics as they put in an impressive performance at the San Siro to take a big step towards the quarter-finals of Europe’s second tier club competition.
Mkhitaryan, who has been settling into life at Arsenal following his move from Manchester United in January, was in impressive form against the Serie A side as the Gunners claimed their first win in four attempts in all competitions.
The Armenia international netted the opener for Arsene Wenger’s men, before Aaron Ramsey netted before half-time to put the Gunners in control of the tie.
Mkhitaryan was understandably delighted to get off the mark and open his Arsenal account as he reflected on his first goal for the Gunners.
Speaking to BT Sport, Mkhitaryan said: “Of course I am very pleased, it was my first goal for Arsenal and I am very happy. But I have to keep doing the same now.”
He continued: “It’s always special to place in a stadium like the San Siro, but it doesn’t matter if we play away. The atmosphere was great and I think every player likes to play in this kind of stadium and atmosphere.
“We didn’t pay attention to that, but we were thankful that our fans had travelled from London and all over the world to support us.”
Mkhitaryan will now be hoping to help Arsenal return to winning ways in the Premier League as well, when the Gunners host Watford at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 13 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.
