Joe Willock has insisted that the Arsenal squad “believe” in Freddie Ljungberg after he was appointed as the club’s interim manager.

Ljungberg has been brought in to oversee first-team affairs at The Emirates after the north London club opted to sack Unai Emery last week.

The former midfielder oversaw a draw in his first game in charge, as Arsenal twice had to come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Norwich City in the Premier League at Carrow Road on Sunday afternoon.

Arsenal are currently on the lookout for a new permanent head coach to replace Emery, but Ljungberg will remain in charge until an appointment is made.

And Gunners starlet Willock has insisted that the former Sweden international has the full backing of the Arsenal squad.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Sky Sports, Willock said: “To be honest, we know collectively that we need to improve, whoever the manager.

“Freddie is a brilliant manager. We believe in him and we’re working hard to try and improve.”

Arsenal are now preparing for their home clash against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Thursday night at The Emirates.

The Gunners are looking to try and climb the Premier League table and get themselves back into contention for a top-four finish this season after they finished fifth last term.

They are currently in eighth place in the Premier League table.
