Kevin Kilbane says Arsenal won't be Premier League title challengers this season
Kevin Kilbane believes that Arsenal are unlikely to challenge for the Premier League title next season but says the Gunners could finish in the top four.
It has been a summer of change at The Emirates, with Unai Emery having been appointed as the club’s new manager after Arsene Wenger stood down at the end of last season.
Emery has been tasked with restoring Arsenal to the top of English football, after the Gunners finished in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy last term.
Arsenal did reach the League Cup final last term but they ended up losing to Manchester City at Wembley back in February.
The north London side will be aiming to at least be able to challenge for a top-four finish in the top flight next term.
And although Kilbane feels that a title challenge will be out of reach, he also believes that the Gunners are capable of finishing in the top four next season.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Sport, Kilbane said: “They won’t challenge for the title but I think Emery will make them more pragmatic and harder to beat.
“That will be the biggest difference with Arsenal this season compared to when Arsene Wenger was in charge and they played more off the cuff. It is a change that they have been crying out for.”
Arsenal will kick off their Premier League season with a home clash against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon at The Emirates.
