Martin Keown names four Arsenal positives for Arsene Wenger
The Arsenal legend explains why the Gunners boss can be pleased with the performance of four of his players on Monday night
Martin Keown believes the performances of Sead Kolasinac, Aaron Ramsey, Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez were all positives for Arsene Wenger in Arsenal’s 2-0 win against West Brom on Monday night.
The Gunners weren’t overly convincing in the final Premier League fixture in round six after Jay Rodriguez was unlucky not to earn a seventh-minute penalty at the Emirates Stadium.
German defender Shkodran Mustafi brought down Rodriguez inside Petr Cech’s penalty area before the striker got to his feet and tested the Arsenal goalkeeper with a low shot.
The West Brom striker didn’t get any clear advantage but referee Bobby Madley didn’t halt the game to retrospectively award a penalty for Mustafi’s foul.
Arsenal were ahead 13 minutes later when Alexandre Lacazette reacted quickest to poke the ball past Ben Foster after Alexis Sanchez’s free-kick hit the woodwork.
Ramsey was impressive in the Arsenal midfield and the Wales international won a second-half penalty for the hosts and Lacazette dispatched the effort for his fourth goal of the season.
Another summer signing Kolasinac was also impressive as the Bosnian defender proved a real force down the left wing for the Gunners.
Former Arsenal defender Keown was quick to praise the Gunners quartet for an impressive performance ahead of their return to Europa League action on Thursday night.
“There are little partnerships building in the team,” Keown told BBC Sport.
“Kolasinac looks really strong in this side. Ramsey is playing with confidence, Lacazette looks a threat and Sanchez is back in the team and looks happy to be so. That is a plus for Wenger.”
