Alexis Sanchez wants to leave Arsenal because of the lack of winners in the current team, Ian Wright has claimed.

The Gunners lost 2-1 to Watford at Vicarage Road last weekend after Troy Deeney and Tom Cleverley cancelled out Per Mertesacker’s opener.

Arsenal have already lost three games this season following defeats at Stoke City, Liverpool and Watford to leave the Gunners six points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

The north London side finished in fifth place in the Premier League last term to miss out on a Champions League spot for the first time under Wenger.

Sanchez has been linked with a move to Manchester City after entering the final 12 months of his current deal with the FA Cup holders.

Former Arsenal striker Wright doesn’t blame Sanchez for wanting to leave given the current lack of leaders in Wenger’s squad to help cultivate an atmosphere of mediocrity.

“This is why Sanchez probably wants to leave,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“He doesn’t want to be in that atmosphere.”

Sanchez moved to Arsenal in a £35m deal from Barcelona in the 2014 summer transfer window.

The Gunners signed Alexander Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac in the recent transfer window.
