Paul Merson tells Arsenal to forget about title challenge
Paul Merson believes the League Cup is a big competition for Arsenal this season

Paul Merson believes Arsenal should target winning the League Cup this season and forget about challenging Manchester City for the title.
The Gunners were 2-1 winners against Swansea City at The Emirates on Saturday after Sead Kolasinac and Aaron Ramsey got on the score sheet to overturn the visitors’ lead in north London.
Arsenal have only managed to win one of their five games on the road in the Premier League this season to leave Arsene Wenger’s side nine points adrift of leaders Manchester City.
The Gunners booked their place in the League Cup quarter-finals mid-week after a 2-1 victory over Championship side Norwich City at The Emirates.
Arsenal will host West Ham United in the next round on Wednesday 19 December as the Gunners look to win the competition.
Wenger’s men have dominated the FA Cup in recent seasons after Arsenal won the FA Cup crown in three of the past four campaigns.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson explained why the League Cup is a bigger competition than the FA Cup for the Gunners this term.
“Arsenal are not winning the Premier League. The League Cup and the FA Cup are big trophies,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“The League Cup is a big, big cup. It’s bigger than the FA Cup because it finishes in February.”
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since the 2003-04 campaign.
The Gunners signed Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and Bosnian defender Kolasinac.
