Arsenal have finally opened contract talks with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to fend off reported interest from Liverpool and Chelsea, according to reports in the British media.
The Sun is reporting that the north London club have begun discussions with the 23-year-old midfielder about extending his contract at The Emirates, with his current deal set to expire at the end of next season.
The story claims that preliminary talks with the midfielder were held last week as they look to extend his current deal, which is said to be worth around £70,000 a week.
The same report says Arsene Wenger wants to sign the midfielder to a new deal and is ready to pay the England star more than £100,000 a week to stay at The Emirates.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has been touted as a target for both Liverpool and Chelsea in recent weeks amid the speculation about his future at Arsenal.
The article also claims that Wenger is now set to ramp up Arsenal’s efforts to get both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to sign new contracts with the north London side.
Both star attackers are yet to agree new deals, with their current contracts set to expire at the end of next season.
