Robert Pires believes that Mesut Ozil is frustrated by Arsenal’s failure to build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners have struggled to produce consistent performances so far this season and their Premier League title hopes took another damaging blow on Saturday when they were beaten 2-1 by Watford at Vicarage Road.

Arsenal are already nine points behind leaders Manchester City and they look a fair way short of being able to challenge for the title this season.

Ozil has come under fire for his performances for Arsenal so far this season, with both he and Alexis Sanchez having entered into the final 12 months of their contracts at The Emirates.

However, Arsenal legend Pires believes that the German World Cup winner is simply frustrated about how things have panned out in recent years at the club.

Speaking to SportBild, Pires said: “Ozil is a warrior who wants to win something.

“To me, he seems so angry about the fact that Arsenal hasn’t put together the team with which he can make a difference.”

Ozil will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action this weekend with a trip to Everton.

The north London side have not won the Premier League title since 2004, but they have won the FA Cup in three of the last four seasons.
