Gary Neville sends message to Arsenal fans after Man City defeat
Gary Neville runs the rule over Arsenal's situation under new manager Unai Emery
Gary Neville believes that it will take Arsenal “three or four” transfer windows for Unai Emery to get his team in order at The Emirates.
The north London side slumped to a disappointing 2-0 loss to Manchester City in their first Premier League game of the season on Sunday as goals from Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva wrapped up the three points for the defending champions.
Emery is the man who has been tasked with steering Arsenal back to the top of English football after they ended up in sixth place and without a trophy under Arsene Wenger last term.
Arsenal made five new signings in the summer as Emery looks to breathe some new life into his squad at The Emirates.
However, former Manchester United defender Neville seems to feel that the Gunners are going to need time to adapt to their new boss and says that Emery’s appointment should be viewed as a long-term one.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Sunday’s loss, Neville said: “He has to have four transfer windows to make this team his. It’s not Chelsea here, by the way
“I don’t think this is short term, the recruitment has been so bad there over this last three or four years.
“It’s going to take basically two or three, four transfer windows to sort this out. This is a great coach, Unai Emery, he needs three or four transfer windows
“I don’t care who the coach would be – you could bring Pep Guardiola in here.
“It took Pep Guardiola three transfer windows at City, the first one in the summer, the January and then the summer after.
“Pep Guardiola, the greatest coach in the world with the biggest budget, it’s going to take him [Emery] more than that.”
Arsenal will now dust themselves down as they prepare for their Premier League trip to Chelsea FC on Saturday evening.
The Blues kicked off their campaign with an impressive 3-0 win at Huddersfield on Saturday.
