Nigel Winterburn believes that Arsenal should look to bring in a winger, a central midfielder and defender in the summer transfer window.

The north London side are bound to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks and months as they look to add to their squad ahead of next season.

It was something of an inconsistent season for the Gunners in the Premier League this term as they ended up in fifth place in the table behind Tottenham and Chelsea FC.

The north Londoners can still book their place in the Champions League for next season if they are able to beat Chelsea FC in the Europa League final in Baku on 29 May.

After that game, attentions will inevitably turn towards the summer transfer window and the players the Gunners could look to bring in.

And former Gunners defender Winterburn is hopeful that they will bolster some key areas of their squad.

Winterburn told Love Sport Radio, as quoted by Metro: “I’d like to see a pacy attacking wide player come to the club, potentially another midfield player and there is a lot being said about the need to restrengthen in defence.

“But I think Unai Emery may be looking at the likes of Rob Holding, who had a fantastic six months and then picked up a serious knee injury.

“He was coming through and looking very, very consistent. It’s just a case of where Unai Emery feels he needs to strengthen.

“Everyone will say that defensively Arsenal haven’t been great again this season but it’s not just about the defence. It’s about when Arsenal do concede how quickly they get played through the lines.

“I’m quite excited about what’s going to happen to Arsenal next season and I’m very intrigued to see where Emery thinks Arsenal need strengthening.

“But my own thoughts are a wide player, another midfielder and potentially another centre-half.

“But I can’t see much more than that coming into the club because we’re hearing that Arsenal haven’t got a vast amount of money to spend.”

Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season under Arsene Wenger.

The north London side will be looking to try and break back into the top four in Unai Emery’s second campaign in charge next season.
