Nigel Winterburn has his say on Arsenal's summer transfer business so far
Nigel Winterburn has expressed his excitement at seeing Arsenal make a move to bring Alexandre Lacazette to the club this summer.
The Gunners look intent on significantly bolstering their squad this summer and Lacazette represents a major coup for the north London side.
The France international follows the arrival of left-back Sead Kolasinac to The Emirates as Arsene Wenger looks to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League title next season.
And former Arsenal defender Winterburn has backed the moves made by the Gunners in the summer transfer window so far.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Winterburn said: “It’s exciting me. I’ve been waiting for Arsenal to make a major signing and it looks like this is the first one.
“It was obvious to all Arsenal supporters and to Arsene Wenger that they needed to improve the squad and one of those areas was the centre-forward position.
“I’m very pleased he is coming to the club and I’m hoping Olivier Giroud stays as well because I still think he is valuable for the team as well.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season meaning that they will not play in the Champions League next term.
However, that does not appear to have affected Arsenal’s ability to attract some top names to The Emirates this summer.
The Gunners ended last season on a high by beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley back in May.
