Martin Keown questions Granit Xhaka and Shkodran Mustafi's long-term futures at Arsenal
Martin Keown has questioned whether Granit Xhaka is good enough for Arsenal in the long-term.
The Swiss midfielder has been a regular fixture in the Arsenal team all season as Arsene Wenger seems to have complete faith in the former Borussia Monchengladbach star.
However, Xhaka has had his fair share of criticism this season and most Arsenal fans are yet to be convinced by the 25-year-old midfielder.
The whole Arsenal squad have found themselves under pressure in recent weeks following their stuttering form in all competitions, although they did produce an impressive display in the 2-0 win at AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Keown feels that Xhaka and defender Shkodran Mustafi still have a lot to do to prove themselves as worthy of places in the Arsenal team in the long-term.
And the Arsenal legend also believes that the Gunners should be focusing on building their team around Jack Wilshere.
Speaking to BT Sport on Thursday night, Keown said: “They should be building the team around Jack Wilshere.
“Is Xhaka good enough in that midfield? Mustafi… there are so many question marks.
“Every compartment in the team have to demonstrate they have a future at the football club.”
Arsenal, who are currently in sixth place in the table, will return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when they host Watford in the Premier League at The Emirates.
The Gunners are 13 points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Champions League qualification.
