Olivier Giroud is hoping his improved form for Arsenal can help him finish the season as the Premier League’s top scorer.

The France international continued his run of scoring in each of Arsenal’s league games when he netted the opener in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Sunderland.

Giroud, 26, scored 17 goals in all competitions for the north London club last season following his transfer from Montpellier.

And the striker is keen to continue his rich vein of form ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League group-stage opener at Marseille on Wednesday.

“I’m really happy with our start to the season and mine in particular,” said Giroud, who has been passed fit for Wednesday’s game.

“Mesut Ozil has already shown what he can bring us; a great vision of the game and very little wastefulness in his passing. He could have finished up with three or four assists against Sunderland if Theo [Walcott] had been more clinical. I think us forwards will score more and more goals with Mesut around.

“A lot of people are talking about finishing top scorer. I’m loving it in this team and feeling good. So why not?

“I’m feeling better and better with regards to last season but I still think I have room for improvement and can do better.”

Marseille v Arsenal: Pre-match facts

• Arsenal have remained unbeaten in their nine visits to France: six wins and three draws. They have won the last five fixtures, including a 2-1 success at Montpellier on matchday one last season.

• Marseille have lost their last three home fixtures on matchday one; two years ago they were away, at Olympiacos, and won 1-0.

• Arsenal’s success in France is out of step with their recent record on their travels which shows nine defeats in 17 away games in the competition proper and five victories.

• Mathieu Flamini began his career at Marseille, making his senior debut in December 2003. At the end of that season he joined Arsenal for the first time.
