Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud hails ‘unbelievable’ Mesut Özil

Olivier Giroud has become the latest Arsenal player to heap praise on Mesut Özil after the Germany international’s stellar display against Napoli on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in a club-record £42.5m deal in the summer, scored his first goal for the Gunners in the Champions League clash, before teeing up Giroud for the home side’s second.
And Giroud has been thoroughly impressed by Özil since his arrival at Emirates Stadium last month.
“Mesut was unbelievable tonight, as usual,” said Giroud.
“It is really simple to find him on the pitch and we have a really good understanding on the pitch. He assisted on my goal and he always does the right thing in the right moment.
“This is his fifth assist since he joined us and I think he was the man we needed to really improve ourselves. He has incredible technique and he did very well tonight.
“His goal is quite difficult to score because he was far [from the goal], he had really good precision in his shot.
“I have the same [understanding] with Jack [Wilshere] and Tomas [Rosicky] and Aaron [Ramsey] and Theo [Walcott] as well so I’m really pleased to play with these kinds of players.”
Giroud has scored six goals in all competitions so far this season after netting 17 times last term.
And the 27-year-old France international believes his recent good form is down to feeling settled in England after moving to Arsenal from Montpellier last summer.
“From the start of the season I have more confidence and I am settled well now in the team and in my new English life,” said Giroud. “I feel really good on the pitch and I want to improve myself.
“It’s true [that I improve in my second season], because in Montpellier I really improved myself for the second season and I finished top scorer and we won the league. I agree with him [Arsene Wenger] and I want to show I can learn from my first season and improve myself here.”
