Arsenal’s Theo Walcott: I’m better when I don’t think too much

Theo Walcott believes that his improvement in front of goal for Arsenal this season has been down to being more instinctive when presented with opportunities.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed his best season so far for the Gunners, netting 18 goals in all competitions and creating 16 assists for his team-mates in 37 games.

And Walcott, who finally put pen to paper on a new Arsenal contract earlier this season, feels that his better form is down to taking his chances without “thinking too much” and doing what comes naturally to him.

“I’m getting in more goal-scoring situations, and I seem to be taking more of them too,” Walcott told Arsenal Magazine.

“So the goal-scoring side has been even better. The last two years have been good for a winger in terms of goals, but this year has definitely stood out. I’ve just enjoyed scoring, creating chances for players and I’m staying fit, which is important as well.

“That’s another side of it – not dwelling on something that’s happened previously in the game.

“Also I’m not thinking too much in front of goal, I’m just doing what comes naturally to me – that’s finishing, and it’s working so far.”
