The Arsenal manager urges the Gunners board to sort out Aaron Ramsey's contract situation
Unai Emery has urged the Arsenal board to sort out Aaron Ramsey’s future amid reported interest from Chelsea FC.
The box-to-box midfielder has little over 11 months to run on his current contract which will end at the end of the 2018-19 Premier League season.
Arsenal have a history of allowing top players to run down their contracts after Chile international Alexis Sanchez moved to Manchester United in a swap deal last January.
The Gunners have turned to former Paris Saint-Germain manager Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s long-term successor following a sixth-placed finish last term.
The Spanish head coach has already signed defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira in a £26m deal from Serie A giants Sampdoria following the Uruguayan’s impressive performance at the World Cup.
Emery is hoping that Arsenal can sort out Ramsey’s future in the near future ahead of their Premier League opener against Manchester City.
“I don’t know,” said Emery.
“That is one question for the club and for the player. I am very, very concentrated. I am focused.
“This is one question for the club and for the player. My opinion is clear. I want him to be with us.
“But it is one question for continuing speaking the player and the club. My opinion is he’s professional.
“He’s a player I want in this team. The contract is one thing only for the club and the player.”
Arsenal missed out on a Champions League spot for the second successive season to force the Gunners board to make a change.
Arsenal signed experienced Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus.
The Gunners have also brought in Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £20m deal.
The north London outfit have also brought on Greece international Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund last month before Lorient teenager Matteo Guendouzi finalised a move.
