Arsene Wenger has warned Arsenal that Aaron Ramsey is in a strong position in their contract negotiations.

The Wales international hasn’t agreed a new deal with the north London side despite the two parties holding talks over the past 12 months or so.

Reports over the past month have suggested that Arsenal have pulled out of negotiations with their Welsh midfielder due to the 27-year-old’s wage demands.

The Gunners set a dangerous precedent when Arsenal handed Mesut Ozil the biggest contract in the north London outfit’s history earlier this year.

Ramsey has reportedly been attracting interest from a number of top Premier League clubs over the past few months, including Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC.

The three-time FA Cup winner could also move abroad amid speculation linking Italian giants AC Milan and La Liga outfit FC Barcelona with a swoop to sign Ramsey.

The Welsh star has already established himself as a key part of the Arsenal team since Unai Emery took over the reins from Wenger in the summer.

Ramsey has scored two goals in seven games in the Premier League in the current campaign to suggest the former Cardiff City midfielder has a future under Emery.

Wenger believes Ramsey’s contract situation has put Arsenal in a difficult situation given the Wales international is in such a strong position.

“We tried that before and it still can happen,” Wenger is quoted as saying by Metro.

“I don’t really know what’s happening at Arsenal. Sure, Aaron Ramsey is in a strong position now and he will use this position.

“But I don’t know how far Arsenal will go in terms of giving him a huge contract. These things were once my responsibility, but not anymore. I’m happy about that!”

The former Arsenal manager signed Ramsey in a £10m deal from Cardiff City in 2008 despite him being linked with a move to Manchester United.

Indeed, Ramsey has since revealed that the chance to work with Wenger proved too appealing given the Frenchman’s ability to develop young talent.

Ramsey has won three FA Cup titles during his decade at Arsenal but the versatile midfielder has never won the Premier League.

The Welsh star will be hoping to start against Leicester City in the Premier League clash at The Emirates on Monday night.
