Arsene Wenger warned Arsenal need five signings to finish in top four
The Arsenal legend says Arsene Wenger needs to add five new signings to their squad to challenge for the top four
Charlie Nicholas believes Arsenal require five new signings to finish in the top four.
The Gunners are rumoured to be on the brink of selling Chile international Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City or Manchester United in the January transfer window.
Arsenal are facing a battle to keep World Cup winner Mesut Ozil who has less than six months remaining on his current deal like Sanchez.
The north London side slumped to a 2-1 loss to Bournemouth on the south coast last weekend to fall further off the pace in the top-four race.
Arsenal are eight points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea after 24 games to leave the north London outfit with a mountain to climb to secure a Champions League spot.
The Gunners missed out on a top-four spot last term for the first time under Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal are in the Europa League last 32 and could still qualify for the Champions League if Wenger’s side can win Europe’s second tier cup competition.
Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas believes the Gunners will required five new signings to challenge for the top four in the second half of the season.
“Phil Thompson called it a mini-crisis on Soccer Saturday, but I see it as being beyond that now,” Nicholas told Sky Sports. “This season is a write-off and I can’t see where the next win is coming from.
“How many players do we need for a rebuild? Sanchez will be on his way, I still have hope for Mesut Ozil signing a new deal, but I think we’re five players short of being a top-four side.”
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when the Gunners finished the season unbeaten.
