Unai Emery: What Dani Ceballos will bring to Arsenal
Arsenal manager Unai Emery gives his verdict on Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos
Unai Emery says he has been impressed with Dani Ceballos’ mindset since his move to Arsenal from Real Madrid.
The Spanish midfielder completed a loan move to Arsenal from Real Madrid last month to bolster Emery’s options in the middle of the park.
Ceballos has arrived at The Emirates with a big reputation following an impressive European Under-21 championship campaign.
The 23-year-old has netted five times in 56 games in all competitions over the past two seasons at The Bernabeu.
Ceballos will be tasked with filling the void left by Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey after he moved to Serie A champions Juventus.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Ceballos’ arrival at the north London outfit, Emery revealed that he has been impressed with the Spanish playmaker’s mentality since his move to The Emirates.
“Ceballos’ mind is very strong,” Emery said.
“His mentality. Last Sunday, when he received a big kick on his ankle I thought ‘oh, it’s broken’.
“But after, on Monday, he was training – (he said) ‘I’m fine and want to train’. He is showing us every day his ambition, his hunger is big. I think we need players like this.”
Arsenal were the busiest of the top-six clubs in the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners signed Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli, Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba, Lille winger Nicolas Pepe, Chelsea FC centre-half David Luiz and Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney this summer.
Arsenal broke their transfer record to sign Pepe in a £72m deal from Ligue 1 side Lille.
Emery led Arsenal to a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League table last term and lost 4-1 to Chelsea FC in the Europa League final.
