Arsenal are pondering a move to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer transfer window, according to reports in Italy.

Italian website Calciomercato, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is reporting that the Gunners are monitoring the defender’s situation at the Serie A club with a view to a possible summer move.

The same story says that Arsenal are likely to want to try and bolster their defensive options in the summer transfer window after failing to bring in any reinforcements at the back in the January window.

The Gunners reportedly sent a team of scouts to watch Koulibaly in action during Napoli’s Europa League clash with RB Leipzig on Thursday night.

The same article says that Koulibaly is valued at around £40m by Napoli, but that price could be set to rise in the future due to market inflation.

Koulibaly has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea FC in the past but the Blues failed to complete a deal to sign the defender.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are currently preparing for the second leg of their Europa League last 32 clash against Ostersunds at The Emirates on Thursday night.

The north London side will then take on Manchester City in the League Cup final on Sunday at Wembley.
