Emmanuel Petit makes prediction about Arsenal summer transfers
Emmanuel Petit gives his verdict on the forthcoming summer transfer window and what it means for Arsenal
Emmanuel Petit has urged Arsenal to spend big in the summer transfer window as they look to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
The north London side have fallen short in the Premier League this season and ended up in fifth place in the table as they missed out on Champions League qualification for next term.
Arsenal are still aiming to finish the season on a high when they take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
However, most Gunners fans will want to see Arsenal invest heavily in their squad in the coming weeks as Arsene Wenger looks to assemble a team capable of winning the title.
The situation at The Emirates is not being helped by the fact that Wenger’s future continues to be a relentless source of speculation, with the Frenchman yet to confirm whether he will be in charge next season.
And former Arsenal star Petit says it is time for Arsenal to spend big this summer.
Petit told bwin: “If Arsenal want to be competitive next season, they need to spend money.
“They are in danger of having a loser image. Look at the academy. Ten years ago you had Gibbs, Wilshere and others coming through the academy and that’s not happening any more.
“If you don’t have them coming through, you have to spend money. They need experienced, international players with winning mentalities.”
