Hector Bellerin told to quit Arsenal for this top club
Steve Nicol believes Arsenal star Hector Bellerin should move to Barcelona this summer
Hector Bellerin should swap Arsenal for Barcelona in the summer transfer window, according to Steve Nicol.
The Spain international has emerged as a target for the Catalan side in the summer transfer window after a disappointing season for both Bellerin and Arsenal last term.
The 22-year-old has established himself as a key member of Arsene Wenger’s side over the past three seasons after breaking into the Arsenal first-team during the 2014-15 campaign.
However, Bellerin’s form suffered as Arsenal struggled in the second half of last season before the Spanish full-back was dropped to accommodate Wenger’s new 3-4-3 formation.
Arsenal’s fifth-place finish means that Bellerin won’t get the chance to play in the Champions League next season with the Europa League on the cards for the full-back.
Speaking to ESPN FC about Barcelona’s reported interest in Bellerin, Nicol offered the Spanish defender some advice about his future.
“Listen I think at the end of the day he has to look at it from a professional point of view,” Nicol said.
“There certainly isn’t an awful lot of loyalty left in football and from a personal point of view, for me, he has to go.
“He’s going to go to a team who is challenging no question for the Champions League next season.
“Everybody wants to win the big prizes, if Hector Bellerin stays at Arsenal, then I’m pretty certain I can stick my neck out and say next season I don’t see Arsenal winning the Premier League and I certainly can’t see them getting any further in the Champions League, because they’re not in it!
“So what does he want to do? Does he want to stay at Arsenal and challenge to be in the top four and try and win the Europa League?
“Or go to Barcelona and try and win La Liga and try and win the Champions League?”
Arsenal won their third FA Cup crown in four seasons last month thanks to a 2-1 win against Premier League champions Chelsea.
