Insider delivers latest update on key Arsenal star’s future
La Liga expert Sid Lowe doesn't expect Barcelona to blow a large portion of their transfer budget on Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin
Arsenal fans shouldn’t despair at reports linking Hector Bellerin with a move to Barcelona this summer, according to Sid Lowe.
Barcelona have been linked with a move to re-sign the full-back in the 2017 summer transfer window after Bellerin moved to the north London club from the Catalan outfit back in 2011.
Bellerin broke into the Arsenal team in the second half of the 2014-15 season after the Spanish starlet muscled Mathieu Debuchy out of Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up.
The 22-year-old was named at right-back in the PFA’s Premier League team of the year in 2015-16 to highlight his development at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Bellerin struggled to maintain his consistency in the second half of the most recent Premier League season to attract some criticism.
Barcelona are thought to be keen on the Spain right-back to bolster their defence after a disappointing campaign in La Liga and the Champions League.
Speaking to ESPN FC about the one stumbling block that could prevent Bellerin from moving to Barcelona, La Liga expert Lowe said:
“My doubt with this is whether Barca would spend a huge amount of money on a right-back when they have three or four positions they want to reinforce.”
Lowe added: “Right-back is a priority but it isn’t their very biggest of priorities.”
