Arsenal are facing an uphill battle to sign Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe this summer, according to David Amoyal.

The ESPN FC expert reckons Arsenal are unlikely to sign the 18-year-old hotshot despite recent reported of a world-record bid.

The Daily Mirror reported that Arsenal were prepared to offer £118m to sign the Monaco striker in the summer transfer window.

Mbappe scored 15 times in 27 games to help Monaco win the Ligue 1 title ahead of cash-rich rivals Paris Saint-Germain.

The teenager scored six times in nine Champions League games to help Monaco reach the last four before losing 4-2 on aggregate to Juventus.

Writing in his ESPN FC column about the likelihood of Mbappe completing a move to Arsenal, Serie A expert Amoyal said:

“In the past few weeks, Monaco received a very substantial offer from Manchester United for the striker and now, according to reliable reports from France, Arsenal have also joined the race.

“Completing the deal would be an uphill battle for the Gunners, because on top of not being in the Champions League, Mbappe’s preference is to join Real Madrid while Monaco would like to keep him at least for one more season.”

Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term after a disappointing domestic campaign.

The Gunners did end the season with some silverware after a 2-1 win against Premier League champions Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
