Chelsea could prevent Arsenal from signing exciting 21-year-old midfielder – report
Arsenal's deal to sign Thomas Lemar could hinge on whether Tiemoue Bakayoko completes a move to Chelsea this summer, according to reports
Chelsea could be set to frustrate Arsenal in their bid to sign Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, according to reports,
The Daily Mirror is reporting that Arsene Wenger has earmarked Lemar as one of his top targets in the summer transfer window.
The Arsenal boss is looking to bolster his squad after a disappointing 2016-17 campaign which saw the Gunners finish in fifth place in the Premier League table.
However, the same article states that Monaco are unwilling to lose all of their big stars this summer after Bernardo Silva moved to Manchester City.
According to the report, the Ligue 1 champions aren’t prepared to lose both Chelsea target Tiemoue Bakayoko and Lemar in the summer following Silva’s switch to the Citizens.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with a deal to sign defensive midfielder Bakayoko over the past couple of weeks as the Premier League champions plan for a return to Champions League competition – and the article claims that a transfer is looking likely.
And it is claimed that if a move for Bakayoko does go through, it could result in a blow to Arsenal’s hopes of signing Lemar.
Arsenal won the FA Cup thanks to a 2-1 win against Chelsea in the final at Wembley, after the Blues won the Premier League title.
