Arsene Wenger sends honest message to Arsenal fans about summer signings
Arsene Wenger insists that he is not ready to splash the cash on big-name signings at Arsenal just for the sake of it
Arsene Wenger has insisted that he is not ready to splash the cash in the summer transfer window with Arsenal just for the sake of it.
The Frenchman ended the speculation about his future last week when he signed a new two-year deal to keep him at The Emirates until the summer of 2019 at least.
Arsenal are likely to be linked with a host of new players in the coming weeks and months as Wenger looks to build a squad capable of breaking back into the top four next season.
The Gunners missed out on Champions League qualification last term when they were beaten to fourth place by Liverpool on the final day of the season.
Attentions will now inevitably turn towards which players Wenger will look to bring in to The Emirates to strengthen his squad.
However, the Arsenal manager has remained typically coy when asked about his summer transfer plans.
Asked about making some big signings this summer, Wenger told beIN Sports: “We have to be clear what we understand as big signings. Is Rob Holding a big signing or not?
“It means a big signing is not necessarily linked with a money spent. A player you sign for £2m and £40m.
“When you sign a player for £40m, he has a positive judgement. When you buy a player for £2m, people say a player can’t be good.”
