Arsenal to offer £100,000-a-week deal to keep Liverpool at bay – report
Arsenal are progressing well with talks to tie Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to a new contract amid interest from Liverpool, say reports
Arsenal are ready to offer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a new contract worth £100,000 a week to keep the midfielder at the club amid interest from Liverpool, according to reports.
The Telegraph is reporting that the north London side are currently in talks with the England midfielder about extending his current contract at The Emirates.
The same story goes on to claim that despite interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool in the player, Arsenal are confident that they will be able to tie Oxlade-Chamberlain down to a new contract worth just more than £100,000 a week.
The article claims that Arsenal and Oxlade-Chamberlain’s representatives have been in talks since the end of the season and that they have been progressing well.
It also states that the fact Wenger opted to start the midfielder in the FA Cup final against Chelsea last month highlights the Frenchman’s faith in the 23-year-old.
Liverpool, however, would be able to offer Oxlade-Chamberlain Champions League football next season after their fourth-placed finish in the Premier League.
The midfielder endured something of a frustrating season under Wenger last term, as he was limited to just 16 starts in the Premier League.
Oxlade-Chamberlain scored two goals and made seven assists in the Premier League for the Gunners as they ended up fifth in the table.
