Ray Parlour sends message to Arsenal about Lucas Torreira
Ray Parlour admits Arsenal could find themselves in a difficult situation with Lucas Torreira
Ray Parlour has warned Arsenal that the Gunners could find it difficult to keep Lucas Torreira at The Emirates this summer.
The Uruguay international completed a £26m move to Arsenal from Serie A Sampdoria last summer ahead of the World Cup in Russia.
Torreira wasted no time establishing himself as a firm hit at the north London side thanks to his never-say-die attitude.
The 23-year-old secured a regular starting spot in Unai Emery’s team alongside Switzerland international Granit Xhaka.
Torreira has been linked with a return to the Italian top flight this summer amid reported interest from AC Milan.
Metro are reporting that AC Milan manager Marco Giampaolo has earmarked Torreira as his top target after working with the midfielder at Sampdoria.
The Uruguayan midfielder has spoken about his difficult adjusting to life in the English capital over the past 12 months.
And former Arsenal midfielder Parlour believes that the Gunners will be powerless to keep Torreira if the South American star wants to leave The Emirates.
“Sometimes if they want to go and leave there’s not a lot you can do about it,” Parlour told Daily Star as quoted by Metro.
“You want them to stay, but if they’re not happy the performances on the pitch won’t be as good as they should be.
“It’s another dilemma for Arsenal. You want people who really want play for the club and do their best.”
Torreira scored two goals and made two assists in 34 appearances in the Premier League last term as the Gunners finished in sixth place in the English top flight.
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since the 2003-04 season under Emery’s predecessor Unai Emery.
