Insider: Arsenal ‘battling’ with Man City to sign 30-year-old defender
Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett delivers the latest update on reports linking Arsenal with a move to sign Jonny Evans
Arsenal are battling with Manchester City for the signature of Jonny Evans this month, according Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett.
The Gunners are thought to be on the lookout for defensive reinforcements this month as Arsene Wenger considers using the mid-season transfer window as a chance to add to his squad.
West Bromwich defender Evans was linked with a move Arsenal in the summer months but a transfer failed to materialise as he ended up staying at The Hawthorns.
However, the 30-year-old’s future has been another source of speculation this month and Sky Sports reporter Dorsett says that both Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in signing the former Manchester United defender.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Tuesday morning, Dorsett said: “So much talk about outgoings at Arsenal but what about potential incomings?
“Jonny Evans we’ve talked about an awful lot already in this transfer window. Arsenal had a bid for him rejected back in the summer.
“We know they’re battling with Manchester City for the Northern Ireland defender.
“West Brom, though, are very keen to keep him and if not, get the very best price they can.
“We understand there have been no formal offers so far and no further approach to West Brom since those initial enquiries last week from City and Arsenal.”
Arsenal are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Sunday as they look to try and get back to winning ways following their 2-2 draw with Chelsea last week.
The Gunners are aiming to break back into the top four this season after they finished fifth last term and had to settle for Europa League football.
Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
