Unai Emery told Arsenal should sign 22-year-old to cover Mesut Ozil
The Arsenal legend wants the Gunners to sign Max Meyer to improve Unai Emery's squad depth

Arsenal should sign Max Meyer to provide cover for Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan next season, Ray Parlour believes.
The Germany international is available on a free transfer in the current window after Meyer’s contract with Schalke expired at the end of June.
The 22-year-old has been attracting interest from a host of top European clubs given his promising reputation following six seasons in Schalke’s first-team.
Meyer has been linked with a potential move to Arsenal given the north London side’s recent history of signing players from the Bundesliga.
Furthermore, Arsenal brought in Bosnia international Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Schalke last summer.
However, the Gunners’ Premier League rivals Liverpool FC have also been linked with Meyer given German head coach Jurgen Klopp is rumoured to be a fan of the German star.
While Parlour doesn’t consider Meyer as a player who merits a starting spot at the Gunners, the former Arsenal midfielder believes the Germany international would be a good squad player.
“I don’t think Max Meyer is a necessity because Arsenal already have lots of attacking options,” Parlour told bWIN.
“We’ve never struggled to score goals and create goals. We’re great to watch.
“However, he’s a great player and you have to be interested in these types of players if they’re available and you want to be a big club.
“It’s a long hard season and Max Meyer may well be needed if [Mesut] Ozil or Mkhitaryan dropped off the pace.”
Arsenal signed experienced Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus.
The Gunners have also brought in Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno, Greece international Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira and French teenager Matteo Guendouzi.
