Arsenal hold talks with MLS side about Mesut Ozil transfer – report
DC United want Arsenal star Mesut Ozil to replace Wayne Rooney, according to a report in England

Arsenal are set for talks with DC United about the possible transfer of Mesut Ozil, according to a report in England.
The Daily Mirror, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that DC United want Ozil to replace Wayne Rooney after the former Manchester United striker moved to Championship side Derby County in a player-coach capacity, although he will not link up with his new employers until January.
The same article states that DC United are looking to make a marquee signing to replace Rooney given the Englishman’s big impact on the MLS side since his move.
According to the same story, the American club could struggle to afford Ozil’s £350,000-a-week wages, making the German one of the highest-paid players at the north London side.
The Daily Mirror goes on to report that Rooney was only earning £85,000-a-week at DC United before his return to English football with Championship side Derby.
The story goes on to claim that Ozil would snub any proposal that saw a significant decrease in his wages given his current deal is set to run until 2021.
Arsenal have already signed Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli, Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba, Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos and Lille winger Nicolas Pepe this summer.
The Gunners will start the new Premier League season with a potentially difficult trip to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
