Ray Parlour tells Unai Emery to sell 31-year-old Arsenal star
Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour says the Gunners need to offload Mesut Ozil in the January transfer window
Ray Parlour says Arsenal need to sell Mesut Ozil in the January transfer window.
The former Germany international remains one of the top earners at the north London side despite playing a bit-part role under Unai Emery.
Ozil has struggled to break into the Arsenal starting XI for their Premier League fixtures, being limited mostly to appearances in the cup competitions.
The 31-year-old impressed at Anfield on Wednesday night with a brilliant assist for Ashley Maitland-Niles in a 10-goal thriller against Liverpool FC in the League Cup.
However, Emery made the controversial decision to withdraw Ozil midway through the second half with the fourth-round tie in the balance.
Arsenal went on to lost 5-4 on penalties to Liverpool FC to miss out on a place in the quarter-final draw.
Former Gunners midfielder Parlour believes Emery should get rid of Ozil if the Arsenal boss doesn’t view the World Cup winner as part of his plans.
“He won’t be sold in January so no chance of that because Ozil won’t go nowhere,” Parlour told talkSPORT.
“Should he be sold? Yes, he should be.
“If you’re not going to play him on a regular basis you might as well get rid of him, yeah.”
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04.
The Gunners made Ozil their club-record signing in 2013 when the German star completed a £42.5m move to Arsenal from Real Madrid.
Although Ozil has won three FA Cup crowns during his stint at the Gunners, Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League or the Champions League.
