Thierry Henry has backed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to be a success at Arsenal.

The 28-year-old striker completed a club record £56m move to Arsenal from German club Borussia Dortmund on transfer deadline day.

The Gabon international has signed a long-term contract with the north London side to become Arsenal’s second January signing.

Aubameyang will be tasked with replacing the goals lost in the Arsenal team following Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester United.

The African forward has scored 141 goals in 213 games in all competitions for Dortmund during his four and a half season spell at Westfalenstadion.

Aubameyang should be able to continue his prolific record at Arsenal given the amount of creativity in the Gunners midfield with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Of course, summer signing Alexandre Lacazette has struggled to translate his Ligue 1 form to the Premier League following his £52m switch to Arsenal last summer.

However, former Arsenal striker Henry is confident that Aubameyang will prove a huge hit at the north London club despite his record of scoring only one goal from outside the box in the Bundesliga for Dortmund.

“At the end of the day, you need to score goals,” Henry told Sky Sports News on Wednesday evening.

“If they come from outside of the box or not, it is what it is. I back him to be a success for Arsenal Football Club and that’s the most important thing.”

Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table and a staggering eight points behind Liverpool FC, who occupy the final Champions League qualifying spot.

The Gunners have lost seven times in the Premier League this term.
