Ray Parlour believes Arsenal missed a trick not signing Chelsea FC midfielder N’Golo Kante.
The France international established himself as a top Premier League midfielder during 18 months at Leicester City.
Kane was a key member of Claudio Ranieri’s squad that won the 2015-16 Premier League title against the odds.
The dynamic midfielder moved to Chelsea FC in a £30m deal from Leicester in the 2016 summer transfer window.
Kante helped to transform Chelsea FC into title winners after the Blues finished seven points clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
The Frenchman won the 2017 PFA player of the year award for his role in Chelsea FC’s title success under Antonio Conte.
Arsenal signed Granit Xhaka in a £33m deal from Borussia Monchengladbach in June 2016 but the Swiss midfielder has struggled badly.
Former Arsenal midfielder Parlour has been left to rue the Gunners’ failure to sign Kante from Leicester ahead of Chelsea FC.
“They missed a trick with Kante,” Parlour told Sky Sports. “He would have been perfect for Arsenal.
“He is a very mobile player. He gets around the pitch. He does a great job for the team.”
Arsenal are eight points behind fifth-placed Chelsea FC in the top-four race.
The Gunners suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss to Premier League leaders Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley last weekend.
Arsenal failed to test Pep Guardiola’s side in a disappointing performance to heap further pressure on Arsene Wenger, but they bounced back with a 2-0 win over AC Milan in the Europa League last week.
