Former Liverpool FC defender Nicol doesn’t expect Arsenal to secure a return to the Champions League.
“Success would be getting in the top four,” Nicol told ESPN FC.
“The squad they have right now isn’t close to any of the teams who will get in the top four.”
The Gunners have signed five players in the summer transfer window to bolster Emery’s options under Wenger.
The north London side lost 3-0 to Premier League champions Manchester City in the League Cup final last term.
