Unai Emery has confirmed that Arsenal are working on potential deals in the January transfer window.

The Gunners suffered their first Premier League defeat since August last weekend following a 3-2 loss to Southampton at St Mary’s.

Arsenal have made steady progress under Emery since the Spanish head coach saw his Gunners team lose to Manchester City and Chelsea FC in their opening two games.

The north London side are in fifth place in the Premier League table and a mere three points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea FC to make a Champions League spot a distinct possibility this term.

Arsenal are without Rob Holding, Danny Welbeck and Konstantinos Mavropanos due to serious injuries, while Skodran Mustafi, Sead Kolasinac and Hector Bellerin have all suffered fitness setbacks.

Emery has been linked with a move to sign France international Adrien Rabiot, after the pair worked together at Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal are also reported to be interested in Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch as well as Roma starlet Cengiz Under with the transfer window set to open next month.

Asked about potential arrivals in January ahead of Arsenal’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night, Emery said:

“The club is working because if we have one good option to come around and help us, we can do it.

“The club has this possibility to help us in the transfer window with some players, but I am very happy with the players.

“Already, we have some problems at centre back when we’re playing with three centre backs, but Sokratis is coming back [against Tottenham]. Koscielny is also coming back, Mustafi is coming back in the next week.

“I can sometimes play with Xhaka or Nacho Monreal, and also Mavropanos is starting to do training on the pitch and running. Maybe in one month he can help us, but also in this transfer window if we have one good opportunity to help us and sign [someone], we are working for that.”

Arsenal finished in fifth and sixth spot in their last two Premier League seasons under Arsene Wenger.
