Ray Parlour identifies where Arsenal need signings in January transfer window
The Arsenal legend believes the Gunners need defensive signings in the January transfer window
Ray Parlour believes Arsenal manager Unai Emery needs reinforcements at centre-half in the January transfer window.
The Gunners have made a positive start to the Premier League season under Emery following the Spanish head coach’s appointment as Arsene Wenger’s replacement in the summer.
Emery’s side lost to Manchester City and Chelsea FC in their opening two Premier League games to heap pressure on the former Sevilla manager and his squad.
However, Arsenal have bounced back in resounding fashion with seven victories and three draws to keep them within touching distance of the top four.
The new Gunners boss has managed to get Arsenal firing again after an impressive return of 26 goals in 12 games in the Premier League in the current campaign.
Emery’s defence, on the other hand, has conceded 15 times, which is 10 goals more than Premier League leaders Manchester City and second-placed Liverpool FC.
While Rob Holding has impressed at centre-half over the past month or so, German defender Shkodran Mustafi continues to make sloppy mistakes in the Arsenal team.
Asked about Arsenal making potential signings in the January transfer window, former England international Parlour told the Daily Express:
“I don’t know. I really don’t know.
“I’m sure they’ll be positions he wants to.
“For me centre-half he could probably strengthen.
“But he’s got [Laurent] Koscielny coming back, they’ve missed him, but he’s a little bit older but I’m sure he’s working hard to get back in the side so I think he’ll assess the situation when it comes to January.
“He’ll be lining people up anyway.”
Arsenal are in fifth place in the Premier League table and eight points behind defending champions Manchester City.
The Gunners will make the trip to Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
