Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba, according to a report in France.
French outlet TF1, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Gunners are on the brink of sealing a transfer deal for the promising centre-half.
The same article states that Arsenal are set to spend £27m on the 18-year-old defender, which would represent a significant portion of their summer transfer budget.
According to the same story, the Gunners are in the latter stages of negotiations as Arsenal close in on their second summer signing.
The report goes on to add that Arsenal will loan back Saliba to Saint-Etienne for the 2019-20 season as part of their deal to sign the exciting French talent.
Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a return to the Champions League in Unai Emery’s first season.
In fact, the Gunners haven’t qualified for Europe’s premier club competition since the 2015-16 season.
The north London side suffered a 4-1 loss to bitter rivals Chelsea FC in the Europa League final in Baku last term.
Arsenal have already signed Brazilian teenager Gabriel Martinelli from Brazilian club Ituano in the summer transfer window so far.
The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04.
