Arsenal transfers: ‘Alexis Sánchez a fantastic signing for the Gunners’
Arsenal transfers: Alan Smith says Alexis Sánchez would be a "fantastic" signing for the north London club

Alan Smith has described Alexis Sánchez as a “fantastic signing” for Arsenal, with the Gunners reportedly edging closer to landing the Chile forward.
The north London club are understood to be on the verge of signing the winger from Barcelona as Arsene Wenger looks to add fire-power to his squad ahead of the 2014-15 campaign.
Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the Barcelona forward, with a move to Anfield suggested as part of a possible deal involving Luis Suarez heading to Camp Nou.
However, with his former club now said to be leading the race for Sánchez’s signature, Smith admits he would be delighted to see the 25-year-old arrive at Emirates Stadium.
“Sánchez is a fantastic signing,” Smith told Sky Sports.
“He’s enjoyed a really good World Cup for Chile; he’s been their best player and he’s been the one that’s dragged them forward and produced some real moments of quality.
“And of course, he’s got that all-important pace and is someone who can get behind defences.
“He played on the right a lot for Barcelona, whether he’ll play a bit more centrally for Arsenal we’ll wait and see but he’s a really good signing.
“He’s only 25 years old, so when you talk about resale values you will get some money back for a player like that.”
Sánchez scored 21 goals for Barcelona last season.
