Arsenal transfers: ‘It’s very important Gunners spend big this summer’
Arsenal transfers: John Jensen believes it is vitally important the Gunners "spend a lot of money" this summer
John Jensen believes it is vitally important Arsenal “spend a lot of money” this summer if they want to have any hope of ending their silverware drought.
The Gunners have so far only signed 20-year-old French striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer from Auxerre despite showing interest in both Luis Suárez and Wayne Rooney.
Jensen, who won the FA Cup with Arsenal in 1993, feels that Wenger is coming under increasing pressure to deliver a trophy at Emirates Stadium.
And the former Denmark international says that failure to end Arsenal’s eight-year wait for silverware could be “the end of” the Frenchman.
“I’m quite sure Arsenal will be patient with Wenger but if they don’t get a [trophy] it could be the end of him,” Jensen told talkSPORT. “I don’t think they’re going to sack him but if he wants to stop it’s up to him
“I think it’s very important that Arsenal spend a lot of money. It’s very important for Arsene Wenger to finish on a high [if he were to leave at the end of the season].
“The start of the season is very important. If he goes out and buys some quality players I’m quite sure Arsenal can be challenging for the title.
“The team they have right now has young players that have been together for about three or four years and he has not sold any players so far this summer.
“If he can stick with that and buy a couple of players I’m quite sure they’ll be in the top three.”
