Arsenal transfers: QPR’s Julio Cesar focusing on Confederations Cup
Arsenal transfers: Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio Cesar says he is focusing on the Confederations Cup - not his future
Julio Cesar says his future beyond the summer is still unclear as the Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper prepares for the Confederations Cup in his native Brazil.
QPR manager Harry Redknapp has already conceded the west London side will struggle to keep the Champions League winner after being relegated to the Championship.
Although Cesar, 33, confirmed he has spoken to “some teams” about a possible switch, the Brazil international, who has been linked to Arsenal, is focusing on next month’s tournament for now.
“I don’t know [about my future]. There are indeed talks with some teams, but nothing definitive. This is the Confederations Cup moment, I have to focus on doing a good work for the national team,” Cesar told Globo Esporte.
“I won’t name the teams as it would not be ethical since I am under contract with Queens Park Rangers. I let people responsible for my career deal with it.”
Cesar earned a recall to the Brazil squad for the 2-1 loss to England at Wembley in February after a string of impressive performances for struggling QPR.
And the former Inter Milan shot-stopper is still optimistic that he can cement a place in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s squad for next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
“I am proud to be with the national team after having some difficulties,” he added.
“My career is in a new path since I left Inter Milan, with delicate situations.
“But there is a dream of being world champions with Brazil. I won’t give up unless my name does not appear in the World Cup final list.”
