Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Arsenal v Cardiff
The Liverpool FC legend is backing Arsenal to ease to a 2-0 win over Cardiff at The Emirates on Tuesday night
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Arsenal to ease to victory over Cardiff City at The Emirates on Tuesday night.
Unai Emery’s side will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing fourth-round exit last week in front of their home supporters.
Arsenal suffered a 3-1 loss to bitter rivals Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium to end their participation in the competition.
Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang got on the score-sheet but his goal was nothing more than a consolation following a dominant Manchester United performance.
Arsenal are unbeaten at The Emirates in the Premier League in 11 games since a 2-0 loss to Manchester City at the start of the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.
In fact, the Gunners have won their last five home games in the English top flight, including a 4-2 win over Tottenham and 2-0 victory over Chelsea FC.
The north London side will take on a Cardiff side that are in 18th place in the relegation zone and two points adrift of safety.
The Welsh side are in mourning following the disappearance of their signing Emiliano Sala after the plane he was on disappeared from radar as it flew over the English Channel on their way to Cardiff last week.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson believes Arsenal will ease to victory over Cardiff to put Chelsea FC under pressure in fourth spot.
“Cardiff’s first game since their striker Emiliano Sala went missing is going to be a difficult occasion for everyone,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport before tipping a 2-0 win for Arsenal in his column.
“What happened to Sala and the plane’s pilot is very sad, and a reminder that some things are a lot more important than football matches.”
The Gunners can move level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea FC in the Premier League table on Tuesday night.
Maurizio Sarri’s side aren’t in action until Wednesday night when the Blues make the trip to Bournemouth.
